It seems one can serve some time flying as a CFI and meet the requirements to get a gig at some regionals. Are the stories about working at regional airlines truly as bad as they sound?

Definitely bad -
It is the way to start an airline career in the XXIst Century -
Low pay, frequent layoffs, poor training, cheap motels near the airport -
Can you survive with US$ 18,000/year salary (gross) - and "gross as well" -
No thanks - No extra food stamps for aircrews -
Only benefits, can go home visit your parents for free -
That is on rainy wednesdays, space available -
So you can get Mom to feed you decently -
It might be called the Delta Connection - has nothing to do with Delta -
Stop dreaming - Same for United Express or American Eagle -
Almost looks like the real airline uniform, but with plastic wings -
Is that the only excuse to go to Embry Riddle...? -
And blow up a fortune in education and ratings...? -
With your salary, will take you 20+ years to reimburse it all -
